An Akron man was arrested after he led police on a high-speed chase Monday night with two children in the vehicle, Cuyahoga Falls police said Tuesday.
Bobby L. Kennedy, 38, of Allendale Avenue, was arrested after the sport utility vehicle he was driving ran out of gas.
Authorities said the chase started at about 11 p.m. when a Falls police officer clocked Kennedy driving 107 mph in a 55-mph zone on southbound state Route 8 near Broad Boulevard and tried to stop him near Howe Avenue.
Kennedy, who was driving a white 2010 Chevrolet Traverse, reportedly fled from the officer, proceeding to Interstate 77, exiting at Waterloo Road and heading to South Arlington Road. Police said the car drove north on Arlington through numerous Akron streets while being pursued by Falls and Akron officers.
Authorities said the driver made his way back to state Route 8 and exited at Howe Avenue, stopping 100 feet east of the exit when the vehicle ran out of gas.
The suspect ran from the car but was apprehended by an Akron police K-9.
Officers said the pursuit lasted about 29 minutes, reaching speeds of more than 100 mph on the highway and Akron city streets. There were no accidents or damage reported during the pursuit.
Kennedy was transported to an area hospital for an injury to his arm caused when the K-9 apprehended him.
He faces charges of speeding, operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs and alcohol, driving with a suspended license, fleeing and eluding police.
He will also be charged with child endangering, because he had two children, ages 5 and 15, in the vehicle during the pursuit, police said.
